Driver who bit a policeman on the ear will spend years in jail
The young man, who was caught drunk driving and bit a police officer on the ear causing serious injuries, will serve 12 years and 6 months in prison. His accomplice was sentenced by the court to 1 year and 6 months in prison and announced for a wanted persons’ warrant for his evasion of criminal responsibility.
“Prosecutors from Anenii Noi obtained a harsh sentence in the criminal case of accusing a 24-year-old man of committing several offences – driving a means of transport in a drunken state without a driving licence (art.264 /1(4) of the Criminal Code), infliction of violence against a person in a position of responsibility (Article 349(1/1) of the Criminal Code), intentional grievous bodily harm or injury to health (Article 151(2)(c) of the Criminal Code).
According to the judgment of the Anenii Noi Court, Central Headquarters, of 28 February 2024, the defendant was sentenced to 12 years and 6 months imprisonment, with execution of the sentence in a semi-closed penitentiary.
The prosecutors charged him with the fact that on 4 June 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., while driving a Toyota Camry on the public road in the village of Speia, Anenii Noi district, without a driving license, the defendant was stopped for checking his documents by employees of the Anenii Noi Police Inspectorate.
Acting in concert with the second defendant aged 21, who was travelling in the car as a passenger, with the aim of disrupting the police employees’ work, he became aggressive, addressing the officials with uncensored words, pushed them and threatened them with violence, for a long time they refused to produce their papers, after which he entered the police car’s saloon and destroyed the radio terminal.
Subsequently, when one of the policemen took action to restrain the defendant, the latter bit the policeman on his left ear, which caused the ear to be pierced, thus causing the policeman, according to the forensic report, serious bodily injury.
The second defendant, who facilitated the commission of the offence under Article 349 of the Criminal Code, was sentenced by the court to 1 year and 6 months’ imprisonment. He was announced in the search for the reason of his evasion of criminal responsibility,” the press release issued by the Prosecutor’s Office reads.
