Drunk driver fatally struck a cyclist.

The Riscani police started processing a traffic accident that occurred yesterday evening, around 20:00, on the M-5 highway, Corlateni locality.

According to preliminary data, a 40-year-old man from Balti, driving a Daewoo car, hit a 56-year-old cyclist from Balti. The cyclist died on the spot.

The driver underwent a breathalyzer test, which showed a breath alcohol concentration of 0.72 mg/liter. He was detained for 72 hours.

A criminal case has been opened to establish all the circumstances of the road accident and to make a legal decision in accordance with the law.

Police urge all road users to observe traffic rules and not to consume alcohol before driving.
