Moldovan citizen died from an electric shock received from police officers

A 28-year-old Moldovan man has died after being tasered by police officers following an altercation at a gas station in South Carolina, USA.

 

The information was confirmed by the Moldovan Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to the institution, the USA authorities are to issue the mortuary passport for the repatriation of the young man’s body.

 

“We extend our sincere and deep condolences to the bereaved family, relatives and friends. The Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in Washington DC is in permanent contact with the American authorities and is ready to take all necessary consular actions,” the MFA said in an information note.

 

The USA press reports that the tragedy occurred on 7 April. Law enforcement officials were alerted to intervene following an altercation between an employee and the owner of a PECO station. Arriving on the scene, officers determined that the store was in disarray and the patron was behind the counter suffering injuries.

 

In order to restrain the Moldovan, the officers tased him. The young man suffered a heart attack and was taken to hospital, but doctors were unable to save him. The exact cause of death has yet to be established by specialists.

 

The case became public after the young man’s bereaved family appealed on social media to the public to help with the funeral and repatriation expenses.

 

The young man is the son of a lawyer in the capital. The Union of Lawyers of Chisinau sent a message of condolences to the family and urged Moldovans to help the young man’s loved ones.

 

“On behalf of the Union of Lawyers of the Republic of Moldova, we send our sincere condolences to the Sprincean family and all those who knew Stefan. At this difficult time, we stand by all the bereaved and offer them all our unconditional sympathy and support. May the good Lord rest his soul in peace and place his good soul among the righteous!”.
